Andy Rivera – Fuego. An exclusive live performance for Vevo DSCVR ARTISTS TO WATCH 2022, an annual series highlighting those that are shaping the future of music.
Seems like Andy Rivera got it right with the title of his recent track. “Fuego” is not only a bouncy reggaeton bop, it’s a good description of how the Colombian singer’s career is feeling towards the end of 2021. “Alguien Más,” “Me Haces Falta,” and “Increíble” are irresistible videos, three items in a parade of tracks that has boosted Rivera’s profile of late. The 27-year-old has had several victories in the past – how else would you frame collabs with Maluma, Karol G, and Kevin Roldán? – but it seems he’s turning a new corner. Rivera came up in a nurturing home that all but guaranteed that he’d become an artist of note. His father is acclaimed Columbian pop singer Jhonny Rivera, so music dominated the household. Andy’s childhood interest in playing piano and singing was supported by his parents. As a result, he started sussing out things quite early. A decade ago, he dropped his first single, “En Busca De Ella,” and a year later he had a hit in South America and Spain with the catchy pop slant of “Te Pintaron Pajaritos.” In 2013, the tougher sounds of urban music marked collabs with Nicky Jam and Dálmata. Soon the seductive strains of reggaeton were becoming part of his music. Four years ago, in partnerships with Noriel and Jory Boy, fierce echoes of trap made his work resound in a new way. Recent tracks shared with Totoy el Frio and Ñejo have jump-started a new thrust of interest. When you see his DSCVR Artists To Watch 2022 performances of “Alguien Más” and “Fuego” you’ll understand he’s firing on all cylinders right now.
